For this weeks blog review I found an interesting article about Lois Cohen’s project Metamorphasis written by LensCulture. I was drawn to this article because of the colors I immediately saw on the women being photographed. The more I read about Cohens project the images were highly saturated on purpose the article says. It started out talking about role models and how girls have always grown up under the male gaze. “ “While researching this project, we really looked for women who had been misrepresented and that needed redeeming of sorts,” explains Roma Voss. Drawing on the aesthetics and symbolism of each character, they then used casting, location and styling to transfigure them into a contemporary context. Collaborating closely with a range of different women, these archetypes are playfully subverted by the new women who inhabit them.” Cohen explains.
